Mr. Ellis earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, graduating with distinction in 2001. After graduation, he spent several years in the oil and gas industry as both a Field Engineer and an Associate Design Engineer with a major engineering, procurement, and construction firm.  Here he developed skills and expertise in mechanical equipment design and project execution.

Mr. Ellis joined Collision Analysis in 2004 in time to participate in a set of personal watercraft tests that resulted in the co-authoring of two peer reviewed Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) publications.  He has also participated in air bag deployment, seatbelt tests, and recreational boat propeller guard tests.

He is an integral part of Collision Analysis’ multi-disciplinary team, under contract to Transport Canada, which conducts in-depth investigations of selected motor vehicle collisions and safety related motor vehicle defects in the province of Alberta. 

His professional development includes specialized training in Human Factors for Traffic Accident Reconstruction as well as courses in passenger vehicle and advanced commercial vehicle collision reconstruction.  Mr. Ellis holds a Class 1 driver’s license and air brake endorsement.  He is also certified to download and interpret data from automotive event data recorders.

Mr. Ellis is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Canadian Association of Technical Accident Investigators and Reconstructionists.
